In Venice, a railway swing bridge is being built across the Western Industrial Canal of the Port of Marghera. It will have a rotating central span. In its normal position, the bridge will provide railway access to the port, and when the central span rotates around its vertical axis, it will open up an unobstructed passage to Marghera for vessels.
This type of bridge is particularly relevant in ports with intensive traffic both on water and on land. It will increase the efficiency of multi-modal transport whilst maintaining the navigability of the canal. Moreover, the new bridge will enhance safety and the throughput capacity of the Port of Marghera, particularly by significantly reducing the time required for train manoeuvres.
In order to implement this strategic infrastructure project, Metinvest Trametal supplied 400 tonnes of specialised structural steel in 2025. The high-quality steel plate was manufactured to meet the demanding requirements for movable bridge structures. It will ensure durability, safety, and reliability in the operation of the new facility. This is another example of Metinvest Trametal's involvement in strategic infrastructure projects in Italy and the EU as a whole.
The total investment in the project amounts to EUR 24.3 million.
